BAD NEWS, GOOD GOD: UNSINKABLE FAITH
My house was sinking. Would my faith sink, too?
"Do you want the good news or the bad news?" The electrical engineer asked. Our house was already sinking.
What else could go wrong?
I nervously buoyed my baby on my hip. “Good?"
"The gas line's still intact…"
"Oh, thank God! I was so worried…"
Then came the bad news.
"…but it could disconnect at any time."
To this day, I'm amazed that I stood my ground when that shocking news shook the foundation of my faith.
When the framework of this world gives way to fear, it can feel like we're being swept away.
Ever since Eve first doubted God’s goodness, we've lived under the threat of bad news taking us down.
But to all who believe, there's GOOD NEWS in Jesus Christ.
When bad news threatens to blow up your life, God's Word for your future stands firm.
Christ alone has the final say.
No diagnosis, document, phone call, or overdue bill can override God's good plan for you. There's no need to fear when worldly experts deliver bad news to your door.
No matter what happens, the BEST is yet to come.
The psalmist understood what it was like to be anointed king one day, running for his life the next.
For the believer, the antidote for fear is trust.
They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the LORD to care for them. Psalm 112:7 NLT
Even as the mountains shake and the hills are removed, be confident that such events are only preparing the way of the Lord.
His way is by faith, not sight. Things aren't always as they seem.
For long before sin drove us from Eden, God planned for our return by way of the cross of Christ.
Because Jesus conquered sin and death, the crosses we bear today become tomorrow's resurrections.
Anxiety surrenders to peace.
Ashes become beauty.
Weeping gives way to joy.
Only God can turn this world's evil into our eternal good. His ways are not ours. They reign far above any whisper of our demise.
Thirty years since that bad news, I've still got good news to report.
My God didn't fail me then. My God will not fail you today.
So trust in the Lord; He cares for you.
That good news will never change.
