HOW TO DO IMPOSSIBLE (Back to Sunday School Series)

Long before we met, my husband Chuck ran out of gas on his way to a much-needed job interview. It was an impossible situation.

Slumped over the steering wheel of the borrowed truck, he prayed for a miracle. Opening his eyes, he saw that God had made an impossible journey possible.

Tank 1 was empty, but there was another tank he hadn't noticed. Tank 2 was filled to the brim.

He flipped the switch from Tank 1 to Tank 2 and reached his destination.

Much like Chuck before flipping the switch that day, we try to get to a holy place by running on Tank 1.

"Jesus wants me to forgive HER?"

"Jesus tells me to love THAT GUY?"

"Jesus asks me to stop doing THAT?"

When Tank 1 hits empty, we pump in some willpower and pray for a miracle, hoping to reach the place God called us to go.

But we need more than fleshly fuel.

Because holy living isn't hard; it's humanly impossible.

Throughout His teaching, Jesus calls His people to unimaginable places. We’re asked to take up our crosses, forgive our offenders, and not worry about tomorrow.

In John's Gospel, chapter 7, Jesus encountered more people trying to live good lives on Tank 1 by following religious rules.

Jesus told them the hard truth. Tank 1 was getting them nowhere.

Then Jesus opened His arms and said, "Come to Me. Believe in Me, and I'll take you where you need to go." (V37)

We can only make this supernatural journey in Christ's power alone.

So when you trust Jesus, God miraculously installs Tank 2 in your chassis.

"Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them." (V38) Jesus said.

Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ has His same resurrection power within them to go the extra mile, take the narrow path, love people well, and do the inconceivable.

Because what is conceived in you is the Spirit of the Living God.

You don't "got this," but Jesus does, and His Holy Spirit's power will never cease to flow.

Jesus isn't asking you to muscle through this Christ-following life on Tank 1.

He's calling you to trust, obey, and flip the switch to Holy Spirit-fueled living.

"Humanly speaking, it's impossible. But with God everything is possible." (Matt. 19:26)

In fact, Jesus even gives you faith to flip the switch.

"The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it." (1 Thess. 5:24)
