HOW DO YOU MAKE A DREAM COME TRUE?
One Saturday morning, seven-year-old me woke to an epiphany.
“I’m starting a club!” I declared.
There was one little problem. The dream was bigger than me.
Dreams from God aren’t caught or made; they’re given in God-sized measure. When our dreams come true, His glory fills the earth.
Even your backyard.
Within an hour, every girl from my class sat cross-legged in the dewy grass, looking to me for the answers.
“What are we going to do?” Suzy asked.
I had no idea. Dreams don’t come with step-by-step instructions.
I’d gathered a few craft items to prepare for this moment. Mom’s sewing shears, a ball of red yarn, and an empty egg carton pulled from the trash didn’t look like much, but they lay on the picnic table nearby.
It seemed Heaven and Earth were waiting on a clueless girl with an extraordinary dream.
I announced my plan.
“We’re making an egg carton necklace!” I decided, sweat breaking out on my forehead.
I held the egg carton and scissors high. The audience gasped as metal plunged into styrofoam.
That’s when the battle began.
I fumbled, pulled, guessed, and prayed until a styrofoam egg cup hung around my neck like a medal.
“Wow,” someone gasped.
But the victory was short-lived.
Sally raised her hand, “What do you do with it?”
Out of nowhere, Mom stepped in and pulled a penny from her pocket, dropping it in my empty palm like an idea.
“Use your necklace to carry change!” I said, demonstrating how.
“I didn’t bring any money,” Suzy whined.
Mom dug for more, but funds were limited. So, I pivoted.
“Or carry rocks!” I threw a pebble into the cup, adding to the confusion.
“No way!” One girl said in disbelief.
I couldn’t believe it either.
I’d laid everything on the table and walked away with nothing; not one person joined me. Sally stifled a yawn.
When our dreams die, there’s one thing to remember.
We serve a resurrection God. All good dreams begin with Him.
“I will pour out my Spirit on all people..your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” (Joel 2:28)
That same day, my dream came back to life.
Suddenly, excitement rippled through the crowd. Sally jumped up. “Let’s make necklaces!” Later, each club member left clutching a unique dream close to her heart.
So, what dream has God poured into you? What vision do you hold close to your heart?
Take it from a little girl who woke up to another epiphany. You can trust God to make your dream come true.
