HOW TO GO WITH THE FLOW (Back to Sunday School Series)
"Just pray, then go with the flow," Dad advised, taking a leisurely sip of coffee.
I drained my cup in one gulp and slammed it on the table. "But God's not answering quick enough!"
It's not my nature to slow down and "go with the flow." I want the flow to hurry up and get going.
But as Dad and I went our separate ways, I paused to watch his unhurried gait as he crossed the street.
Do we move at a different pace once we receive God’s grace? Is there ever a time to hurry?
When we follow Jesus, timing is everything.
There’s a time to run. Then, there’s a time to stroll.
Our eternal Heavenly Father sets the clock.
Scripture records a story in John 4 about a desperate dad who learned the pace of grace during a time in his life when he needed instant answers.
His precious son was dying, so the man began to run.
He ran twenty hard miles without rest. Nothing could stop him until he reached Jesus and laid his request at the Lord’s feet.
Jesus wasted no time in answering. Jesus said, “Yes.”
"You may go. Your son will live," the Son of God said. (v50)
It put the anxious dad in a bit of a pickle.
All he had to go on was Jesus’s Word. He didn’t see the proof; it was twenty miles away.
Every believer faces a choice after asking for God’s help.
Do we get off our knees and run to solve the problem ourselves?
Or do we take Jesus at His Word and “go with the flow”?
Scripture reveals that this devoted dad didn’t just say he believed Jesus but demonstrated his faith by slowing down his efforts to get home.
Jesus was in charge of the situation, so the dad no longer needed to hurry or worry.
When you choose to yield control, you gain peace with every step.
When you’re no longer rattled, it rattles the gates of Hell.
Because even the devil knows nothing can stop the answer that God puts in motion. Soon, you’ll see it with your very own eyes.
As the trusting dad journeyed home, his servant met him with the good news. His son was healed the moment Jesus gave the Word.
Why do we worry? Why do we doubt?
Trust in the Lord; He will direct your path.
And set your pace to “go with the flow.”
