LETTING GO OF CONTROL
"Are you guys going to the big event?" Someone asked.
"Better ask the warden," came the reply, pointing to me.
I've earned the nickname "the warden" because I need everything in my little universe to run through me.
I use the word "NO" to control my universe.
Saying "NO" protects me from potential problems, unlikely scenarios, possible mistakes, and overall uncertainty.
God forbid I say "YES" and let the door swing open to let all the unmanageable situations and people in.
But lately, God's been working on my heart. Deep down, I know the truth.
Humans can't control the universe.
God already does.
And the Almighty Maker of Heaven and Earth doesn't oversee His universe and our lives with an iron-fisted "NO" like I do.
Instead, the Holy, Immutable, Omnipotent God opens His arms, governing every atom and element with a resounding "YES!"
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ.”
(2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV)
Yet a dark question still lurks within the heart of every self-reliant and self-protecting Christian, asking, "Can God be trusted to rule over every part of my life?"
We're afraid to "let go and let God" because somewhere back in our theology hangs a faulty picture of God. He's painted as a prison warden, ready to deny us, lock us up, and shut us down.
But quite the opposite is true.
God sent His Only Son, Jesus Christ, to set us free.
When Jesus said "YES" to His Father's will and gave up His life for you and me, a chorus of demons shouted "NO!!" But no power on earth could hold back God's "YES" when Jesus walked out of the grave.
The One who died for you now lives and reigns forevermore. Jesus Christ is King.
So, what are you afraid of?
God says, "YES." Jesus says, "YES." Now, through Him, you can also say "YES" and hand Him the reins of your life.
You can trust Jesus to rule over every molecule of His universe. He'll align every planet and event according to His perfect will.
Let go and let God handle that chaotic, uncontrollable sin or situation.
Swing the door wide open and hand God the keys.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
“And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. “
(2 Cor. 1:20)
