WHAT WE KNOW (It’s a Wonderful Life)
"I know what I'm going to do tomorrow, and the next day, and the next year and the year after that." - George Bailey, It's a Wonderful Life
I really hate to break it to you, George, but it’s time to ring out the old year with the timeless truth.
We don't know squat about the future.
At any moment, a phone may ring, a heart may break, a storm can rage, or a tank will hit bone dry.
Hanging on to plans too tight gives a soul perpetual whiplash.
Best to buckle up with what we know so we can better enjoy the ride.
1. God is with us.
He will never leave you to be consumed.
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”
(Isaiah 43:2, NLT)
2. God is for us.
Even when it feels like the whole world is against you, God is not.
"The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?"
(Psalm 118:6, NLT)
3. God has us.
No one and nothing can unravel our eternity.
"From eternity to eternity, I am God.
No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done."
(Isaiah 43:14, NLT)
While here, we will never understand why things happen the way they do.
God's ways and thoughts are much higher than any found on earth; His paths are beyond tracing out.
Yet there will come a day when we will see where holy paths have led.
Can you imagine that? No one can.
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him."
(1 Corinthians 2:9, NLT)
Happy New Year, dear child of God.
Wherever it takes you, God will be there.
