WHEN PLANS CHANGE

“I know what I’m going to do tomorrow, and the next day, and the next year and the year after that,” said George Bailey in the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Oh, George, George,” I thought, shaking my head while setting my popcorn and lofty ideas aside. Though I didn’t fault George for trying to control his future, I’d been in those same shoes last year.

I penned my New Year’s resolutions in bold permanent ink, vowing to dream big, tackle major projects, and extravagantly celebrate milestones.

Then, with one tragic phone call, all those plans disappeared.

I suddenly remembered what I already knew. Life doesn’t work that way.

At any moment, chosen destinations can change. A phone rings, a heart breaks, a storm rages, or a tank hits bone dry on an endless, weary road.

But unexpected circumstances can’t derail God’s grand and glorious plans for our lives.

When our situation spins out of our control, we can fix our eyes on Jesus Christ. Jesus and His love for us will never change.

“Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

When you lose your grip, Jesus still holds everything together.

As Creator and Sustainer of the Universe, Jesus safely keeps your past, present, and future in His nail-scarred hands.

God’s love for you is everlasting. All His promises to you are true. You, your hopes, and your dreams are always on His mind.

There is a hope-filled future for every one of His children. Take God’s hand, and He’ll escort you all the way there.

Bitterness and disappointment will pop up like roadblocks, making you feel like you’re not getting anywhere, but that’s a lie.

Here’s the truth: God’s ways and plans aren’t like ours. They’re far better. You can’t see it now, but one day you will.

Keep trusting God, and you’ll move forward. His Holy Spirit will guide you one step at a time.

Wake up “tomorrow, the next day, and the next year, and the year after that,” knowing whatever God has in store will be for your good and His glory.

Yes, yes, yes! It’s a wonderful life.

And the best is yet to come.
