WHO HAS THE ANSWER? (Back to Sunday School Series)
I hate to be the bearer of bad news.
Because after it's delivered, there are too many questions.
Why did God let this happen? Where is Jesus now?
Finding our way through a faith crisis without answers is like the blind leading the blind.
"Trust God," people say, but it's hard to recognize Him when darkness falls.
That's why Jesus comes to us in questioning times, giving us two answers to help us trust Him when we can't see.
In John 9, Jesus entered a blind man's life and opened his eyes and heart with these responses.
But at first, the disciples asked, "Why was this man born blind?" (V2) Who is to blame here?
Jesus had come to heal, not to hurt. He refused to add to the pain by pointing a finger. Instead, He focused on the truth about God's power to redeem any hopeless situation.
"…this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life." (V3)
Jesus's response assures us that God is with us, even now. In dark times, His light shines through us to pierce the darkness with hope.
"I am the Light of the world," Jesus revealed. (V5)
Even if your faith is clear as mud, you're about to see God intervene.
"He (Jesus) spat on the ground and made mud from the spittle and smoothed the mud over the blind man's eyes." (V6)
It's a mystery how God works. Don't try to figure it out. Only Jesus can take a little bit of holy, mix it into a whole lotta mess, and send you on a mission of hope.
Jesus sent the blind man to wash in the Pool of Siloam, "So the man went and washed, and came home seeing." (V7)
The man chose to walk in blind faith. Seeing isn't believing. Trusting Jesus is.
When the man's eyes were opened to what Jesus could do, the man was ready for the following answer. But there had to be an honest conversation before he could accept it.
"Do you believe in the Son of God?" Jesus asked him. (V35)
That's the real question.
Will you believe in Jesus when you don't understand? Will you call Him Lord, even if?
"Who is the Son of God?" The man asked, looking into Love's eyes. (V36)
"I Am," Jesus said.
In this broken world, there'll be questions. Jesus is the Answer we need.
