ARE YOU HUNGRY?
“Make sure you feed her this time,” my little brother teased my date as we headed out the door. “Last time you took her out to dinner, she came home and tore the door off the fridge.”
The man, who would one day be my husband, laughed at the revelation while I slumped down in the front seat and wished I could disappear.
It was true. In my desperation to be wanted and not be a burden, I pretended not to be famished and ordered a side salad for dinner on our first date at a fancy steak house.
I was willing to deny my hunger to keep my pride intact.
Turns out I haven’t changed much in 40 years.
And neither has the human race.
We pretend to have little appetite, but behind closed doors, we’ll stop at nothing to try to fill our deep abyss.
But there is a hunger in every heart that no bread basket on earth can satisfy, a thirst we cannot quench.
Knowing this, Jesus came from Heaven to fill us to overflowing, declaring Who He was to every ravenous soul,
"I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never go hungry and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35 (NIV)
He invites you to feast on Him today. There is no shame in being hungry.
Take Him in and let Him nourish you -body, soul, and spirit.
Jesus, the Bread of Life, will fill every empty plate with His love.

“Why do you like Jesus so much?” my granddaughter asked me one day.
Because He satisfies the hunger of my soul.
