START SINGING

I used to lip-sync at church.

It's true.

Every Sunday, I stood by people who could really belt it out.

Once upon a time, that had been me.

But as years passed, I found that I was never able to hit those high notes like I used to.

After a squawk or two, I stopped trying.

Lips moved to the beat, but nothing was there.

It was the same with my heart.

And I began to wonder.

Would Jesus carry someone who couldn't carry a tune?

Dear God, I hoped so.

One day, I came across this song in the Bible. It felt like it was written for me. Maybe, it can be yours, too.

I waited patiently for the Lord;

    He turned to me and heard my cry.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit,

    out of the mud and mire;

He set my feet on a rock

    and gave me a firm place to stand.

He put a new song in my mouth,

    a hymn of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear the Lord

    and put their trust in Him.

Psalm 40:1-3 , NIV

There'll be times when you can't find the melody or recall one note of joy.

But keep your heart open.

Wait a little longer.

And the Lord will come to fill it.

You'll start to hum, then whistle and suddenly sing again, but not like before.

Now you have a voice that rivals a million angel choir, like no sound you've ever heard.

It's the song of the redeemed.

So, apologize in advance to the people sitting in the pews around you this Sunday.

Let them know your lip-syncing days will soon be over.

It’s time to start singing again.
