TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM
“Nik, why do you like Jesus so much?” my 4-year-old granddaughter asked me as I tucked her into bed.
It was such a simple question, but at such a hard time when my sweet little Bug needed an answer. That morning, Mommy and Daddy had rushed her new baby sister to the hospital and had yet to return for a good night kiss.
There was no time to think, no time to consult the experts. It was just Bug, me, and a silent prayer. Somehow it felt like her faith-and mine-hung on the answer.
I pushed the curls away from her face and gently kissed her forehead. “Because Jesus loves me! And He loves you, too, precious girl!"
The simple words spilled out of my heart without much thought about profound theology.
But it was enough to set her little mind to rest. God’s love has that kind of power.
After I turned out the light, I stared into the dark, her little voice echoing in my mind.
"Why do I like Jesus so much?” I asked myself, “Why do I trust Him -even now?”
“Because you are finally getting to know Him,” came my soul's reply.
Then, I closed my eyes with a renewed hope for the morning.
Knowing Jesus has that kind of power.
“So let’s learn, let’s press on to know the LORD. His appearance is as sure as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, As the spring rain waters the earth.”
Hosea 6:3 (NASB)
